The Somatic Experiencing® (SE™) Professional Training curriculum is delivered via a combination of lecture, demonstration, and guided practice sessions with other students. There is an experiential element to the training. The trainings are delivered over a 3 year period, twice a year for 6 days and spaced approximately 6 months apart. Training modules must be taken in sequence but in exceptional cases, where a student is unable to attend one of the live training modules, we offer supplemental video training modules for our Beginning and Intermediate classes. This will ensure students may continue with their local training group (certain restrictions may apply).

  • Each module of the training is facilitated by an international senior faculty member from Somatic Experiencing ® International.
  • The training offers a range of learning methods to suit a diverse range of learner styles. Components to the training include theory, a combination of in person, practical and pre-recorded demonstrations of the approach and subject topic.
  • Application skill development evolves in the practice sessions, which are run each day of the training and incorporate experiential exercises conducted in dyads, triads, and small groups. Each session is set up, guided, and supported by highly skilled SE™training assistants.
  • Each module scaffolds onto the previous for continuity and depth of learning.

    Homework requirements

    • There are no written assignments or projects.
    • There are 3 all-encompassing training manuals supplied, one for each of the three-year modules.
    • Dr Peter Levine has written and co-authored a suite of books providing extensive reading for participants to broaden their knowledge of topics related to each module.
    • The formation of, and ongoing practice with, a local study group is recommended to support connection, embodying, and deepening understanding of the approach.
    • There is a suite of senior assistants approved to provide both individual and group case consultations (supervision) so practitioners can attain further support as they develop their Somatic Experiencing (SE™) skills.
    • The group triads are facilitated and supported by highly skilled Somatic Experiencing Assistants who have translated SE into their practices with client work.
