Levine, creator of the groundbreaking Somatic Experiencing® method, visited Australia for the first and final time in 2026 for a landmark series of events dedicated to trauma healing, nervous‑system education, and cross‑cultural dialogue. For more than five decades, Dr Levine has shaped the global understanding of trauma through his pioneering work in physiology, psychology, and neurobiology. His bestselling books — including Waking the Tiger, In an Unspoken Voice, and Trauma and Memory — have influenced clinicians, educators, first responders, and community leaders worldwide.
This historic Australian visit marked a rare opportunity for professionals and the public to learn directly from one of the most influential trauma theorists of our time.
A Once‑in‑a‑Lifetime Event Series
Dr Levine’s Australian program included:
- Keynote presentations on the evolution of trauma healing
- Live demonstrations of Somatic Experiencing® principles
- Professional development workshops for therapists, educators, and health practitioners
- A special dialogue event exploring the intersection of trauma and Indigenous healing
This tour represented Dr Levine’s only planned visit to Australia and spoke directly to the work of mental‑health professionals, community organisations, and leaders in trauma‑informed practice.
A Turning Point for Trauma‑Informed Care in Australia
With rising demand for trauma‑informed services across health, education, justice, and community sectors, Dr Levine’s visit arrived at a critical moment. His work has helped millions understand trauma not as a psychological weakness but as a biological response that can be resolved through compassionate, body‑based approaches.
“Dr Levine’s contribution to the field is immeasurable,” said event organisers.
“His presence in Australia is more than a professional development opportunity — it’s a cultural moment that will influence how we support healing for years to come.”
